There’s a difference between sourcing solar equipment and truly understanding where it comes from. From 26 July to 6 August 2026, the ATSolar team set out to close that gap, travelling through Shanghai, Hefei, Yiwu, Nantong and Pudong for a firsthand look inside the factories, R&D centres and production lines of some of the world’s most advanced solar technology manufacturers.
This wasn’t a sightseeing trip. It was a deliberate, hands-on continuation of a philosophy that shapes every project ATSolar delivers: partner only with the elite few.
Two Days Inside Sungrow’s Hefei Operation
The journey began in Hefei, home to Sungrow, one of the world’s leading solar inverter manufacturers. Over two full days of site visits, the team moved through production lines and technical facilities that have helped position Sungrow as a global leader in inverter technology.
For a company that specifies components across its Supreme Range installations, seeing that manufacturing precision in person is more than a formality, it’s confirmation that the engineering standards behind every inverter ATSolar installs are exactly what they claim to be.
AIKO Solar A Full Day Inside an Intelligent Manufacturing Base
From Hefei, the journey continued to Yiwu for a full-day tour of AIKO Solar’s Intelligent Manufacturing Base, one of the most technically immersive stops on the trip. The visit covered AIKO’s solar cell and module production lines from start to finish, followed by their exhibition hall showcasing the technology driving their panel innovation. The day closed with a business and technical exchange session, filmed on-site, giving ATSolar the opportunity to engage directly with AIKO’s technical teams on the details that matter most: cell efficiency, manufacturing consistency, and the quality control processes behind every panel that eventually makes its way onto a South African rooftop.
KUKA Cables The Detail Most People Never Think About
On Saturday, 1 August, the itinerary moved to Shanghai for a site visit to KUKA Cables’ manufacturing facility. Cabling rarely gets the spotlight in a solar installation story, but it’s one of the most safety-critical components in any system. Seeing KUKA’s production facility firsthand reinforced why ATSolar treats every component in a system, not just the headline equipment, as worth scrutinising at the source.
Sigenergy Factory Floors, R&D Labs, and a Look Inside Pudong Jinqiao
The trip’s next leg took the team to Nantong and Pudong for an in-depth look at Sigenergy’s operations, spanning factory visits, meetings at their headquarters and R&D centre, and a tour of the Pudong Jinqiao production facility. This stop offered a rare window into not just how Sigenergy manufactures today, but where their research and development is heading next, insight that directly informs how ATSolar thinks about the next generation of battery and energy management technology for South African homes and businesses.
A Final Stop at MTK Centre, Shanghai
Before departure, the team completed one last site visit at Shanghai’s MTK Centre a fitting close to a trip built almost entirely around direct, on-the-ground engagement with manufacturing partners, rather than second-hand assurances.
More Than Manufacturing Hospitality, Culture, and a Shared Standard
What stood out just as much as the factory floors was the way the trip was hosted.
Throughout every leg of the journey, ATSolar’s partners went out of their way to showcase Chinese culture and hospitality, from fancy dinners to evenings spent together outside the boardroom. It reflected something beyond good manners: a clear, evident pride in doing business the right way, a value that mirrors exactly how ATSolar approaches its own client relationships back home.
Even the logistics of the trip carried that same thread. High-speed rail connected each leg of the journey, Shanghai to Hefei, back to Shanghai, on to Yiwu and Nantong moving the team between world-class facilities with the same efficiency and precision on display inside them.
Why This Trip Matters
As ATSolar Director Justin Gascoigne put it:
“With such a huge world and so many options for manufacturers, it’s so important to deal with only the elite few. This is why we deal with only the best.”
That philosophy isn’t a marketing line, it’s the reasoning behind every partnership this trip reinforced. In an industry where component quality directly determines system reliability, lifespan, and safety, the difference between “a manufacturer” and “the right manufacturer” isn’t small. It’s the difference between a solar installation that performs quietly for twenty-five years and one that becomes a recurring problem within five.
This trip reinforces ATSolar’s ongoing commitment to working only with the elite few manufacturing partners in the industry, relationships built on direct engagement, technical scrutiny, and mutual respect. It’s these same relationships that will continue to shape the quality and reliability of every project ATSolar delivers across South Africa in the year ahead.
Behind every Supreme Range installation is a chain of decisions that starts long before a single panel reaches a rooftop, decisions about who to trust, what to inspect, and which standards are non-negotiable. This trip was one more link in that chain.
Follow ATSolar’s journey and partnerships as we continue building relationships with the world’s top solar technology manufacturers.
